Multi-Band Time of Arrival Estimation for Long Term Evolution (LTE) Signals

This paper presents a method for estimating the time of arrival (ToA) long term evolution (LTE) signals received on multiple separate transmission bands by same base station (BS) mast. By exploiting overall bandwidth occupied different and correlation between corresponding channel impulse responses, higher precision is achieved with respect to usually adopted single-band approach whenever time-correlation among sufficiently high. The ToA estimation carried out generalizing space-alternating generalized expectation-maximization (SAGE) algorithm multi-band context, proving that availability provides reduced standard deviation estimated ToA, limited increase computational cost. main analyzed issue consists in management asynchrony transmitters belonging distinct cellular operators, which addressed developing suitable combine contributions provided bands. validated simulations dual- tri-band scenarios, further applied real dual-band measured through portable setup experimentally acquired from an LTE BS mast covering cells.
